Jan 1, 2014 - Here's a new year treat from a band that needs no introduction. The Bay Area's Ceremony have been banging out amazing hardcore releases.
Ceremony are a five-piece hardcore punk from Rohnert Park, California that began in 2005. They're probably one of the most well-known bands in punk around now, and are among a bunch of bands currently pushing the past those punk rock conventions (like Fucked Up or Iceage, as a few examples), or something of the sort. Their early material bears a lot of similarities to powerviolence, with its fast-paced, intensely blistering and chaotic short song after short song. Even then, they showed signs of progression in their music. From each album to album, you can hear the evolution and experimentation that occurs in the band, as they abandon old ideas, try new ones, or simply tweak what they've been doing before. In their more recent stuff, they've been incorporating a large element of post-punk, akin to Public Image Ltd. Or Joy Division (which isn't that surprising, since they took their name from a Joy Division song).
Regardless of what era of Ceremony you're listening to, they manage to keep things engaging, intense, and just flat-out kick ass. They've worked with a bunch of great labels, such as Bridge 9, Deathwish, Malfunction, and Matador, as well. These guys are definitely recommended for anyone into punk rock who wants to hear a band doing something new with an old sound.
Below is practically their entire discography, with the exception of two 7's, which are Hysteria and Adult, which I would greatly appreciate anyone who has them to share them. They've also got a split with Titus Andronicus (another amazing band) coming out later this year, which I'm really excited for.
Here's a new year treat from a band that needs no introduction. The Bay Area's Ceremony have been banging out amazing hardcore releases since 2005. They started off playing rage-drenched hardcore punk influenced by powerviolence and later-on leaned more towards an experimental, thumping, mid-tempo brand of dirty punk rock.
Their latest full length is probably one of their strongest releases within their discography and had me hooked immediately. This band continues to astonish even with reworking their entire sound again and again. These guys can't do wrong.
Snag everything below and dig. Happy New Year!
